Opplane is currently scaling its technical team and looking for an experienced Network Software Engineer to design and deploy high-performance, enterprise-grade networking appliances. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, startup-style environment alongside industry veterans from top global tech firms.

Role Overview

As a Network Software Engineer at Opplane, you will sit at the intersection of transport connectivity and large-scale system design. The company prioritizes a “clean code” approach, requiring engineers to own their features from architecture to deployment. You will be working on critical data plane stacks and building robust networking solutions used in financial and telecommunication sectors.

The team values diversity and global collaboration, with offices spanning the US, India, Portugal, and Singapore. If you enjoy solving complex networking challenges in a high-ownership environment, this role is built for you.

Key Eligibility & Requirements

Opplane isn’t looking for a passive worker; they need a hands-on engineer who can lead technical initiatives.

  • Academic Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Core Experience: Minimum of 3 years building enterprise-grade networking appliances or similar complex systems.
  • Language Proficiency: You must have strong embedded software skills in C/C++. Knowing Python is an added advantage.
  • Networking Expertise: Deep knowledge of L2–L4 networking, including TCP/IP, UDP, ARP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and Firewalls.
  • Fast Path Knowledge: Hands-on experience with VPP, DPDK, or similar open-source data plane stacks. Prior experience with TRex traffic generators is a major plus.
  • Tech Stack: Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) is mandatory.
  • Cloud & Security: Experience with IPsec, SSL/TLS, and SDN (Software Defined Networking) is essential. Bonus points if you have worked with AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Responsibilities

You won’t just be maintaining code; you will be pushing the boundaries of network software performance.

  • Design and develop high-performance features for networking appliances.
  • Work extensively on VPP/DPDK and other open-source data plane stacks.
  • Lead technical initiatives and mentor other engineers on the team.
  • Communicate architectural decisions to senior leadership clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global teams to deliver scalable solutions.
